National Inter College, Kasimabad, Ghazipur: A Legacy of Freedom, Education, and Rural Excellence

National Inter College, Kasimabad, Ghazipur, traces its origins to India’s struggle for independence. The institution was established in 1947 through the collective efforts, sacrifices, and patriotic spirit of the people of the Kasimabad region. During the Quit India Movement of 1942, a mass uprising in Kasimabad led to the destruction of the local police station. In the aftermath of this incident, the British colonial administration imposed collective punitive fines on the residents of the area, including many freedom fighters, for their participation in the national struggle for independence. Following India’s independence, these fines were reimbursed by the Government of India in 1947. The returned funds became the financial foundation for establishing an educational institution dedicated to serving rural society.

Accordingly, on 9 December 1947, an educational society was registered under the leadership of the late Sri Ram Awatar Singh of Shekhanpur (Village and Post), with the objective of establishing and managing a high school. Sri Saryu Pandey, who later served four terms as a Member of Parliament, was nominated as the first President of the Society, while Sri Ram Surat Singh, a four-time Block Pramukh of Kasimabad, was appointed as its Secretary and Manager.

The institution received official recognition from the Secondary Education Department of the Government of Uttar Pradesh in 1949 as National Higher Secondary School, Kasimabad. Following the introduction and recognition of the Intermediate Science programme in 1966, the institution was officially renamed National Inter College, Kasimabad, Ghazipur.

However, despite the official renaming and the subsequent order of the District Development Committee (DDC), Ghazipur (Order No. 1133/26/04/1969), the revised institutional name has never been incorporated into the official land records. Even today, these records continue to carry the obsolete and incorrect name of the institution, a long-standing administrative anomaly that remains unresolved.

Since 1992, the institution has been led by Dr. Vipin Bahadur Singh, a physicist and academic who earned his Ph.D. in Physics from Banaras Hindu University. Elected as Secretary and Manager, he has devoted more than three decades to the development and modernization of the college. Under his leadership, the institution has evolved from modest hut-based classrooms into a modern educational campus equipped with digital classrooms and a dedicated computer learning centre.

Today, the college provides education from Classes VI to XII in the Arts, Science, and Social Science streams. Teaching is conducted in approximately 20–25 classrooms, and student enrolment exceeds 2,300, making it one of the largest government-aided secondary institutions in Ghazipur district. Construction of a spacious modern library is currently in progress, further strengthening the institution’s academic infrastructure.

The institution also manages Rashtriya Shishu Vihar, a separate primary school campus established in 1982, which provides education from Nursery to Class V. The classrooms of this campus are presently being renovated to create an improved learning environment for young students.

National Inter College possesses extensive sports facilities, including a large football ground and an additional mini sports field within the campus. A portion of the land adjoining the main sports field has become the subject of a prolonged boundary dispute owing to alleged fraudulent claims and administrative negligence in the revenue records. Furthermore, parts of the institution’s land have been encroached upon over the years/decades. The management is actively pursuing legal and administrative measures to restore and safeguard the college’s rightful property. Since April 2026, Sri Devendra Kumar Singh has been serving as the Acting Principal of the college.

Over the decades, National Inter College, Kasimabad, has earned a distinguished reputation as one of the leading government-aided educational institutions in Ghazipur district. The college is particularly respected throughout the Varanasi region for its long-standing tradition of conducting fair, transparent, and malpractice-free public examinations, reflecting its enduring commitment to academic integrity, discipline, and educational excellence.
